Abstract
On January 1, 1990 in West Germany the Produkthaftungsgesetz came into force ; this statute transforms the E.E.C. Directive on Liability for Defective Products of July 25, 1985. After giving a short overview of the current state of products liability in general the article deals with the main features of the new statute. Emphasis is given to divergencies and modifications of the Produkthaftungsgesetz in relation to the E.E.C. Directive. The author doubts, however, whether the objective of the Directive, namely the harmonization of the law relating to products liability within the member states of the E.E.C, can be achieved by the Produkthaftungsgesetz.
