Abstract
In this paper the relationship between time-transcending eternity and God’s action in time is discussed. After a brief look into the debate between eternalists and temporalists and some critical reflections on it, I suggest a threefold understanding of eternity which rests upon the doctrine of the trinity. Then I develop a pneumatologically-based model of divine action in terms of a spiritual force-field. From this perspective I try to reconstruct the alternative conceptions of action and causation and to integrate their intentions in the model of “operative presence”. The final reflections on the “power of weakness” in God’s spiritual self-representation hint at an answer to the question of theodicy.
