Abstract

The first part discusses the main religious traditions active in China between the 4th century BC and the 6th century AD and tries to show that one really "belonged" only to the ancestor cult of the own family. One could "switch" between local cults as one could, from the 2nd century AD on, between Daoist and Buddhist traditions as well.
