Abstract

The aim of ALTHERAS (ALzheimer THERApeutic System) is the development of a drug delivery system to enable improvement in the individual medication of people suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Transdermal systems are particularly attractive as they represent a non-invasive and self regulated treatment. The goal of this work is to create a system in which the drug is immobilized and released by a light induced cleavage. As a consequence, the project involves a multi-disciplinary approach, using suitable chemistry combined with pharmaceutical engineering, physics and nanotechnologies. The main objectives are the manufacturing of a pre-prototype through the identification of basic specifications and the obtaining of the proof of concept.
