Abstract

This paper examines the interactions between anaphoric encapsulation and reported speech in a corpus of Italian written journalistic texts. In the first part, I propose a taxonomy where encapsulators are classified on the basis of semantic and textual criteria; in the second part, I analyze the relationship between the main pragmatic features of some journalistic sub-genres and the norm of use of specific classes of encapsulators.
