Issue: Scientific studies show that school-based physical activity programs have positive effects on health, cognitive capacities, and the daily routine of primary school children. On account of such findings, a number of activity programs (APs) have already been implemented throughout Switzerland. However, after intensive research, it has become evident that so far no comprehensive concept has been elaborated which would contain the breadth of APs, and which would structure them so as to make them available to primary schools. Methodology: Existing and successfully implemented APs in Switzerland have been categorised according to six applications: learning in motion / movement during recess, homework in motion, school courtyard / school premises, way to school, physical education, and lastly, health and activity projects. Scientific evidence served as the basis for the selection. The individual measures of the six application areas were then illustrated, and compiled in a media kit entitled "The movement friendly primary school".Object: The media kit (booklet, DVD and website) is intended to give an overview of successfully implemented APs. Moreover, its purpose is to demonstrate the value and benefits of a movement friendly school environment to various politicians as well as to teachers and their school management. The DVD serves to legitimise a movement friendly school for teachers in their work with parents and also teacher-training-schools. Lastly, thanks to the media kit, primary schools should find encouragement in their implementation of effective APs. Conclusion: With the help of the media kit "The movement friendly primary school", Swiss primary schools can be made aware of the possibilities of integrating movement in the daily routine of primary school children. Moreover, the implementation of the concepts meets the concerns of the schools' mandate of health promotion and of holistic development of children.
